Vilnius Lyceum Metamorphosis - Through Art to Education
Vilnius Lyceum participates in the Change Schools program and is exploring creative learning for the second year already. This year the broad school community is cooperating with three creative practitioners: film director, arteducator and theater director.
The challenge: creative learning by turning science to art;
Curriculum: analysis of literature, art works and historical period by the means of expression;
Creative process: thematic theatre improvisations, historical movie, graffiti;
Creative skills: imagination, consistent practice, cooperation.
Studying historical period of the1863- 1864Uprising, learners are reconstructingthe economic, cultural, artistic andeducationalcontexts, looking for facts and historical descriptions, finding links between thesciences and artsin the past.
Impact:
Most learners believe that when performing creative tasks/ activities, they become more open and free, it is easier for them to organize discussions and debates, to more accurately and clearly express their thoughts and to notice things that may seem insignificant at first glance.
Learners were learning to work together in a team, to create together and to pursue a common goal, also, to connect their own ideas and the ideas of others. This gave them more self-confidence and provided more meaning to their activities.
Continuity:
Creative projects could be a part of a systematic creative education. Teachers will apply their methodical and creative experiences in the educational process and integrated (interdisciplinary) projects.
